Current Sports Guests

Current Sports with Al Martin is a new sports TV show run by WKAR that uses a creative format different from the sports TV norm.
"We bring in a new guest each week to be a part of the show to talk about topics in the sports world," Al Martin, the host of the show, said.  "Guests so far have includes former Spartan and NBA player Morris Peterson, MSU Head Trainer Sally Nogle, and sports journalist Joanne C. Gerstner."
"Al sent out an email to see if we (Holt Football) were interested in being on the show," Al Slamer, Head Coach of the Holt Football team, said.  "The show was great fun for players and community members.  They enjoyed being a part of and watching a TV operation."
"They had a live TV audience for the show and it spiced things up a bit," Slamer said.  "They were very enthusiastic."
"The next guest will be East Lansing High School Varsity Basketball Coach Steve Finamore," Martin said.  "He's one of the first people I met when I got into the TV business and he's a great guy."
The show withe Finamore will air on Thursday, November 21, at 10 p.m on WKAR-TV.

Current Sports TV Creation

The TV Station WKAR created a new show called Current Sports TV with Al Martin, expanding its coverage in the television realm.
"The show was created in May, branching off from the radio show Current Sports NewsTalk," Al Martin, the host of the TV and radio shows, said.
"Al was hired from about 100 applicants by a search committee created by WKAR," Sue Carter, a member of the search committee and a professor at Michigan State, said.
"I participated in the Spartan Sports Classic while I attended school at MSU and I met my predecessor at WKAR, Earle Robinson there," Martin, a 2012 graduate of MSU, said.
"WKAR wanted to expand their coverage by adding a sports show," Carter said.  "Current Sports is a nice compliment to the other programs that WKAR runs."
"The goal of the show is to go beyond the X's and O's, and look into the human side of sports," Martin said.  "We have a live audience and bring in a special guest for the show each week."
Current Sports with Al Martin runs on Thursdays at 10 p.m. on WKAR-TV.
